Eileen Cunningham

Obituary of Eileen Alanah Cunningham

CUNNINGHAM, Eileen Alanah (née Duncan) -

The family of Eileen Cunningham are sad to share the news of her sudden passing at home on April 11 after a brief illness.

Eileen, known to many as “Lanny” or “Gran,” was in her one-hundredth year of life: she was born at Ivy Cottage in the village of Maud in Aberdeenshire, Scotland on September 17, 1919. She trained as a nurse before enlisting in the Women’s Auxiliary Air Force during the Second World War, serving in postings throughout Scotland, England, and Wales. After marrying and raising her family in Newton Mearns, Scotland, she retired and immigrated with her husband to Canada to be with her grandchildren.

A beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Eileen’s cheery and generous nature was rewarded with a life full of many close and cherished friendships. She is now with her husband, William; her brothers, George and Terrence; her sisters, Hazel and Mavis; her daughter-in-law, Patricia; and her great-grandson, William. Eileen will be dearly missed by her son, Bernard; her brother and sister-in-law, Dennis and Nancy; her sister-in-law, Anne, and her family; her grandchildren and their spouses, Calum and Tracy, Craig and BJ, and Christina and Todd; and her great-grandchildren, Duncan, Gwenyth, Norah, Victoria, Julia, Charlotte, and Andrew.

All who knew Eileen are invited to a celebration of her life at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 20, 2019 in the chapel of Mount Pleasant Cemetery at 303 Riverside Drive, London, Ontario.
