Obituary of Cynthia Marie Blacklock

Cynthia (Cindy) Marie Blacklock passed away peacefully on September 2nd, 2022, in her 72nd year, after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. Her husband John and son Adam were at her Victoria Hospital bedside. Cindy was born in Montreal on November 17th, 1949 to Gonville (Gunner) and Beatrice (Betty) Ticehurst. Longevity runs in her family and she was expecting many more years. She will be fondly remembered by her family members, including her grandchildren Lyndsey and Leland and her sister Brenda Irvine (Woodstock). Her extended family includes aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews in the Boston and Cape Cod area. Cindy will also be remembered by her many friends: childhood friends (especially Nancy and Linda), Uniroyal friends (especially Rosemary), UWO Geography Dept. friends (especially Colleen and Barb), neighbourhood friends (especially Bill and Dolly), her sewing circle friends (especially Sharon) and John’s University friends (especially Brett, Teresa and Sheila). Her friends recognized her love of a good discussion, her lively sense of humour and her perseverance. She rarely complained as her mobility issues worsened. She loved travelling and camping in Canada and winter travels to Southern warmer climates. She loved being in or on the water. Swimming gave her a sense of freedom as she was more mobile in a lake than on land. Whale watching and kayaking were other activities that gave her joy. Cindy loved a broad range of music and attended concerts that included the Beatles, John Prine and the Forgotten Rebels. The classic rock years of Rock the Park were also summer highlights. In recent years she developed a love of sewing - more specifically embroidery. This of course involved acquiring an extensive fabric collection. She loved learning new techniques with her sewing buddies. John will certainly miss her baking - especially double ginger peach pies. Cindy enjoyed good food and was especially fond of Maritime trips that included lobsters.
