My sincerest condolences to the Swartman family. Bob taught Energy Conversion about 10 years ago of which I have very fond memories of. He was a brilliant man sharing his insight and knowledge to all class mates. He deeply cared about our progress and always inspired us to treat Mother Earth with the respect she deserves. In fact, he is one of my inspirations to pursue a PhD in Thermal Energy Storage! Thank you Prod. Swartman for everything. I hope you Rest in Peace.

My deepest condolences to his family & friends & everyone who knew my dearest Professor.
He was the only family that my husband & I had in Canada.
Professor Swartman has touched many lives, including mine in many ways. He's inspired me to work hard and become a true engineer. Since 2013 when i joined his class as an international student, Professor has cared for me and taken me under his wings. Though i moved to Alberta after graduating, we kept in touch daily and he was very keen in guiding me at work and life in general.
He visited me when i had my first born in 2017 and visited us again during the holidays in 2019.
Prof. Swartman was so full of love and never forgot to wish me and my kids on their birthdays.
I was so fortunate to bring my parents to meet my dearest professor in July this year...
He may have left the earth but professor Swartman will continue to live in our hearts..
I consider myself truly blessed to have known such a great man!
I love you and miss you ....

I was an International student at Western 1969-73. Bob was my professor in 2 courses as well as thesis Advisor. His encouragement and support was so outstanding that when I slowed down from business I reconnected with him. After a few years we set up the R.K. Swartman Master of Engineering Program Award, which became a good reason to come back to Western to meet the Award students and especially Bob. I saw Bob a few months ago at his apartment and he was talking about world affairs with a sharp mind. Miss you, Bob. (Tim Kwan, ‘73)
