Obituary of Gerry William Logan
September 7th, 1945 – 24 July 2024
Surrounded by family, at St. Joseph's Hospice, Gerry William Logan passed away on Wednesday, 24 July 2024, at the age of 78, in his hometown of London. He leaves behind his daughter April Simmons (from London, ON) and two grandsons: John Storey & MacKenzie Storey (from Calgary, AB).
Gerry was born September 7th, 1945, in London, Ontario, Canada, and was the son of Gerald Robert Logan and Joan (nee Bentum) Logan. His parents, brother Robert Logan, and June Paul, predeceased him. His sisters, Barbara Murch (from London ON), Jeanette Brereton (from London ON), Emily Logan (from London ON), Wendy Crichton (Tillsonburg), Anne Marie Rancourt (from London ON) and brother Randy Logan (from London ON) survive him.
Gerry was never afraid of hard work. He worked at Westcast Inc. foundry in Wingham, ON, AMJ Campbell moving company in London ON, and North Star Ice Co. in London ON. Gerry loved to work with his hands and could often be found building fences, decks, sheds, etc. He also enjoyed building metal airplanes that would be attached to a fence and would turn in the wind.
He just loved classic cars from the birth of the automobile up to the 1960’s cars and trucks. He once owned a Model T Ford car that he worked on in his garage “up in Winham”.
Gerry proudly referred to himself as a “Hard Rocker”. He really enjoyed Elvis Presley movies and music. He purchased every record Elvis ever made. From his teens until Gerry’s passing, he styled his hair in the classic 1950’s pompadour cut or “The Elvis Cut”.
Gerry loved dogs . . . all dogs. Every dog in the neighbourhood knew him because Gerry was known to have “a stash” of dog treats in his truck, just in case, he “ran into” a great dog. He often referred to the dogs as “Dolly”.
The family sends heartfelt thank you to the excellent nurses and wonderful caregivers of St. Joseph’s Hospice for their patience with Gerry during his battle with lung cancer. We are truly grateful for Fiona, Kathy, Stephanie, and Sue for their care and support for both Gerry and his family.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Joseph’s Hospice or a charity of your choice. A funeral will be held at 10:30 am, on Saturday, 24 August 2024 at Mount Pleasant Cemetery Chapel & Reception Center, 303 Riverside Drive, London, Ontario Canada. Donations to St. Joseph’s Hospice will also be accepted at the Funeral. A private interment with family will be held later.
