Dorothy had a way of making everyone, including me, feel welcome in her home. I loved her for taking my sister under her wing and treating her like one of her own. She was a frank, yet loving, lady with a great sense of humour. I was fortunate to see her briefly in recent years, and wished she hadn't had to endure so much pain. My deep condolences, David Sr, and the rest of the family. I know how much Dorothy will be missed.

Mr. Halfkenny, Dave, Beth and family. My condolences on the loss of your wife, mother and grandmother. I met Dave in high school and Beth years later. I recall with fondness Dorothy and her tough love stance in life. She was a force to be reckoned with, in a good way. I know that she will be missed. Please know that my thoughts are with you today as you celebrate Dorothy. Diane (Igras) Gowanlock

Thank you Diane. I met you first at hockey through your parents Hank and Julie. Those were the good times when everyone mixed regardless of what team they played on. David is now retired from the Navy. However, he is performing the same job for a few more years as a civilian. Thank you very much for your kind words. It was very nice of you. Give our best to your parents.r

Our sincere condolences to the Halfkenny family during this very difficult time. I met Dorothy many years ago when I became friends with David Jr in public school. Our friendship continued through high school and university and remains to this day. Dorothy was like a second mother to me growing up. She was kind, generous and tough when she needed to be. I’ll always remember her guidance and advice as we tried to navigate life. She never judged but was there for a gentle touch or push (kick in the ass) if we needed it. I always loved seeing her and David Sr at the London Knights game and getting caught up. I’ll miss her bright smile, sense of humour and that laugh. I know that she suffered these past few years and take comfort that she is in a better place…at peace. Thinking of David Sr, David Jr and Christine as they mourn the loss of their Mom.
Our deepest condolences.

I met this wonderful lady at her home in London where I and a few close friends were staying as groomsmen to her son David's wedding, a long time ago now. She welcomed us all into her home, having never met any of us before, and by the time we left after the wedding...I swear...she had adopted all of us as her own...my other mother, I would say for the kindness of her heart and overall generosity of spirit. Dorothy and I would see each other occasionally over the years when she and David Sr. would visit their son David here in Ottawa and, each time, there would be a big hug and that sweet silent reminder that she was still like my other mother from another time. Memories are what they are to each of us, individually. It doesn't matter if our memories of events so long ago are different in certain details or even facts. What is important, is what our memories convey to us and the ones with whom we choose to share them. Dorothy was an important person in my life even if she didn't realize it and I will always remember her kindness. My sincere condolences to the Halfkenny family. Beati Mundo Corde (Blessed are the pure of heart).
