Obituary of Dorothy Leola Halfkenny
Dorothy Leola Halfkenny (nee Harwood) passed quietly supported by her family at Victoria Hospital July 25, 2022 in her 81st year. She was born in Paris, Ontario March 29, 1942.
Dorothy was a military wife who anchored the family through many relocations including Europe, New Brunswick, Ottawa, Barrie and London. She was a home maker for the first twelve years of marriage before re-entering the work force to work for her mother at UWO. While living in Ottawa she worked at Veterans Affairs and on returning to London she was employed at Trudell Medical as a Purchasing Agent until her retirement. She was an avid hockey fan and season ticket holder for twenty-two years supporting her beloved Knights. Dorothy’s hobbies include sewing, ceramics and doting on her four grand-children. She was a great partner, mother, grand-mother and great grand-mother. We will miss her.
Dorothy is predeceased by her mother Mrs. Emily (Helen)Scoyne and brothers Donald and Gordon Hardwood.
She is survived by her spouse David, son David (Beth) Halfkenny and daughter Christine (Dave) Zellas; four grand-children, Sarah (Travis Jensen), Chelsea, Hunter and Noah; and three Great grand-children, Parker, Daisy and Ryan.
The entire family would like to thank the many doctors, nurses and the palliative care staff at Victoria Hospital for the incredible care they afforded Dorothy.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Mount Pleasant Cemetery (303 Riverside Drive, London) on Thursday, August 18, 2022 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Words of Remembrance will commence at 1:40 p.m., with a reception to follow. Guests will be received by the family between 1:10 – 1:40 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a donation in memory of Dorothy are asked to consider the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada or a charity of their choice.
